River Trails board directs study of district signage and keeps ICE-ban resolution as future topic

The River Trails School District 26 Board of Education on Feb. 10 directed district administration to gather information on the costs, content and placement of new district property signage and to consult the district attorney about signage that would prohibit Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity on school property.
During the Superintendent's report, Dr. Jodi Megerle summarized the board's direction: the administration was asked to "gather more information about the cost of signage, including the content of the signs, their placement, and to consult the district's attorney for guidance on signage that prohibits Immigration and Customs Enforcement activities on the property." Board member Rebecca Pfisterer separately requested the board adopt a resolution to "ban immigration and customs enforcement activities on school grounds," and President William Grimpe conducted a straw poll; the board voted 7-0 to keep the item as a Future Topic for further consideration. The board did not adopt a resolution at the meeting and no formal policy was enacted.
