Community members tell Rantoul board they want direct responses; student message says bullying affects mental health

"I get calls back from the Superintendent, but not the board," Ray said during the public-comment period. Her request focused on improving two-way communication between the board and community members.
A prerecorded message played by Chez Bennet relayed concerns from Alexander Rivera, a student at JWE. Rivera said bullying reports are not taken seriously unless there is a physical incident and that the situation is harming students.
"Feeling unsafe in the school is affecting students' mental health," the student said in the recorded statement.
Board members did not announce a formal response during public comment. The remarks were recorded during the meeting's public-comment period and were taken under advisement by district leadership, which plans follow-up on items such as safety and reporting procedures.
