Rankin board says FY26 deficit narrowed to $108,877 as district cites planned capital purchases

At its May 18 meeting, Dr. Matt Gordon told the Rankin School District #98 Board that the Preliminary Amended Budget for fiscal year 2025–26 now projects a deficit of $108,877.00, down from the -$249,114.06 projected in the original budget adopted in September.
Dr. Gordon said the shortfall is largely driven by planned capital purchases, including the RTU‑3 replacement and a new math curriculum, and he cautioned the board that "tighter financial times are ahead." He also noted transportation costs are expected to increase when the district's new provider begins service on July 1, 2026. The administration said any purchases completed before July 1 will be reflected in the Amended Budget. The board was told the official Amended Budget will be recommended for approval at the June meeting and a public hearing on the Amended Budget is scheduled for June 22, 2026.
