Planning staff (speaker 8) presented a rezoning application to change about 78.13 acres in the South Padre Island Investment Company subdivision from single-family to Resort Area District G and supplied a map showing the property north of Beach Access No. 6. Staff said the item had been approved by the South Padre Island zoning board and identified the property owner as Billy Shrank of Greenville Investment Company.
Commissioners pressed staff for more specific location data and asked whether adjacent property owners were directly notified; several commissioners said they wanted clearer plans from the applicant before approving wide-ranging Resort G uses, which can include cottages, RV/mobile home parks and recreational activities. Commissioner Lopez moved to table the rezoning request pending the additional materials; the motion carried. The court agreed to reopen the public hearing when the information is provided.
