County budget staff presented the proposed FY2026–27 budget calendar, requesting the court approve dates for compensation publication, hearings and final adoption. The court agreed to retain a timeline similar to last year: publish proposed budget in mid-August, hold public hearings in late August, and adopt the final budget and tax rate on Sept. 1 unless the court elects to shift the calendar by a week.
Budget staff (S25) reported that appraisal district values remain unsettled with roughly $4.5 billion in value under protest, which could affect revenue estimates. Commissioners were asked to set priorities and to provide departmental clarifications; staff said total departmental requests—new positions and salary adjustments—exceed this year’s budget by about $10,700,000. The court asked staff to return with itemized increased operational costs by department and to quantify costs and revenue impacts for requested personnel and raises.
Commissioners voted to approve the calendar and tasked staff to prepare detailed cost breakdowns for the next meeting.
