Board approves lunch and milk contracts; district warned of meal cost increases

The Westchester SD 92-5 Board of Education approved a food-service contract for school meals and a separate milk contract at its April 16 meeting. Mr. Gress described the lunch contract as "standard" and said the district expects increases in costs for lunch, breakfast and milk in the upcoming school year.
Mr. Gress also noted the district is currently in year two of a five-year bid cycle for food services and explained that the next formal bid would be required per the bid schedule. Both contracts were approved by the board on separate motions that carried unanimously among members present (Yea: 6, Absent: 1).
Why it matters: Contract approvals set vendor relationships and, as staff warned, likely mean higher student meal prices or district subsidy needs in the coming school year.
