WCHS students place at IHSA journalism and music contests

Washington Community High School recognized IHSA state journalism placings and a first-place music Solo & Ensemble result; teacher sponsors and staff framed the awards as school-wide successes.
The Board recognized several Washington Community High School students for IHSA State Journalism placements during the May 12 meeting. Noted results included David Stevenart (2nd place, Sports Writing), Callie James (3rd place, Editorial Cartooning), Maddie James (5th place, Review Writing), David Johnson (6th place, Headline Writing) and Annalee Sprenkle (6th place, Yearbook Copy Writing). Journalism sponsor Jen Reiser commended the students and thanked the Board for its support.
Staff also celebrated a first-place finish at the 2026 IHSA Music Solo & Ensemble and Organization Contests; Tallman described the result as a school-wide accomplishment and explained how the contest works. The recognitions were presented during the visitors and correspondence portion of the agenda.
