The Commissioners Court approved the purchase of a 2026 Caterpillar 926 wheel loader from Holt Cat through the Sourcewell cooperative contract in an amount not to exceed $225,629. Director of Purchasing EJ Harbin said the Sourcewell contract provided a discount of $72,440.40 and Holt Cat offered an additional $3,765.60 as a long‑time customer concession.
Commissioner Ike explained the purchase was driven by rising repair and parts costs on aging equipment and that the county has budgeted the funds in the FM budget. "This is one of the pieces of equipment that's at the top of the list because it is eating our lunch, and it is causing that repairs and parts budget to skyrocket," the commissioner said. The court approved the purchase unanimously and recorded that the FM budget will fund the acquisition.
Staff said the existing machine is over 20 years old and replacement will reduce maintenance costs and downtime. The county will follow cooperative‑contract procurement rules and take delivery once purchase and funding confirmations are complete.
