Mike Heidemann of the Nevada State Firefighters Association told the board that "the climate in Nevada and in the volunteer world is changing and our numbers are down considerably," and that "the conference had to be cancelled this year due to low attendance numbers." Heidemann said the association will try regional symposiums and has scheduled the first for April 24-25, 2025 in Ely.
Heidemann also raised regulatory concerns, saying proposals in an OSHA rewrite could "not only put volunteers but smaller pay departments completely out of business." No formal board action was taken in response; board members discussed outreach and regional approaches to training and recruitment.
