School psychologist Jessica Peters presented an overview of Elyssa's Mission programming designed to support students at risk of self-harm or suicide. Peters said the initiative would add annual middle-school lessons, targeted screenings to identify students in need of timely intervention, and education for staff and families on recognizing signs of depression and connecting students with trusted adults and community resources.
Peters told the board the program is intended to complement existing mental-health practices and to help normalize conversations about mental health so students and families are more likely to seek help. The board recorded the presentation and did not take separate action at the meeting.
