The Health Facilities Commission asked lawmakers to approve updates to trauma‑center rules intended to bring Tennessee standards in line with national guidance. Rob Seashultz, the commission's trauma‑system director, said the changes are intended to promote appropriate utilization of the trauma care delivery system and save lives.
Seashultz told the committee Tennessee has six level‑1 trauma centers and that state designation and inspection processes will be standardized under the rule. Members probed availability and transport times in rural 'trauma desert' areas; Seashultz said the state has improved air‑ambulance coverage but acknowledged geographic gaps in access. The committee gave the rule a positive recommendation.
