South Harrison board approves superintendent employment contract for Nathan Freed, 6-1

The South Harrison Community School Board on March 3 approved an employment contract naming Associate Superintendent Nathan Freed as superintendent by a 6-1 vote. The motion to approve the superintendent employment contract was made by Karen Lopp and seconded by Steven Simler; board member Nick Evans cast the lone Nay.
Board President Mary Mathes opened a public hearing on the proposed contract and reported no public comments. The contract approval was recorded under New Business item XIII.1. After the vote, Mr. Freed "expressed thanks to the board for approving his contract and expressed that he was looking forward to working with staff, students, the board, and the community members in the future," according to meeting minutes. At the same time, board member Nick Evans said he did not feel the board followed policies properly during the hiring process. No formal challenge to the vote was recorded.
