Board approves Budget Amendment No. 2 as revenue estimates rise

The Benzie County Central Board of Education unanimously approved Budget Amendment No. 2 at its March 9 meeting after the district's Director of Finance detailed recent revenue increases and required expenditure adjustments. The motion (25‑26‑077) was moved by Mr. Egeler and supported by Shannon Gillison; the vote was 6–0.
Director of Finance Danielle Banasiak told trustees that projected per‑pupil Foundation Grant amounts increased from $14.58 (reported in November) to $149.52 (reported in February). The amendment also accounted for additional restricted revenues including Spec Ed Headlee obligation, 31aa adjustments, Title I/II/IV funds, a FAFSA Completion Challenge grant, and 27l(2) Educator Compensation. Expenditure changes included required offsets for restricted revenue, bond arbitrage considerations, and shifting some sinking‑fund projects into 31aa where allowed.
Banasiak said the combined effect of careful management and the revenue increases reduced the district's deficit and moved the budget closer to alignment with expected revenues. The board approved the amendment without dissent; administration will continue monitoring count days and pupil audits which may adjust final state aid calculations.
