After weather briefing, commissioners decline to impose burn ban

Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley told the board June 22 that conditions were hot and dry with only a small chance of rain. "It was going to be better heat wise than it had been with a small chance of rain, but still very dry," Wadley said, and added he had not received input from other fire chiefs indicating a burn ban was needed.
After the briefing the board voted not to put a burn ban in place at this time. Commissioners recorded unanimous support for declining to enact a ban, noting they would revisit the decision if conditions changed or if fire chiefs requested action.
The minutes show the decision was made as a discretionary matter by the commissioners based on the chief's assessment and lack of collective request from other fire chiefs.
