District says county updated deed after racially restrictive covenant was removed

During the superintendent’s report the district told trustees that a research initiative, Justice InDeed, identified racially restrictive language in the original deed for a parcel owned by the district at North Creek Elementary.
"The district completed the process for removal of this language and was notified by Washtenaw County of the updated deed record reflecting both the current law and the values of our community," the superintendent said. The minutes indicate this was completed following notification from two community members and the district’s follow-up with county records.
The board recognized the administrative follow-through; no further action or vote is recorded in the March 9 minutes.
