Chelsea School District narrows fieldhouse bid; presenters say $1.8M in donations will complete project

Clark Construction representatives told the Chelsea School District Board at its March 9 meeting that eight proposals responded to the fieldhouse RFP and the project team narrowed the bids to three finalists.
"Donations of $1.8M being used to complete this project," Clark Construction representative Chris Martin said, noting the funding would supplement the selected construction contract. The presenters said the team made a unanimous decision to recommend Rand Construction as the contractor to proceed to next steps.
The presenters outlined three design/price options: a base design at $2.78 million, an enhanced exterior panels option at $3.11 million, and an enhanced exterior vestibule option at $3.34 million. Board members and staff discussed expected construction timeline, the selected firm’s experience, building size and projected staffing needs, and security and technology systems for the facility.
No formal board vote on a contract award is recorded in the minutes; district staff and the presenters indicated the recommendation would be processed through the district’s procurement steps. Ross Potgiesser, the district’s operations lead, participated in the discussion and answered trustee questions about site logistics and staffing for a new facility.
