Bridgman board approves student trips, band camp and spring coaching hires

The Bridgman Public Schools Board of Education on Feb. 23 approved a consent agenda that included the 2026–2027 Band Camp proposal and several student travel requests. Superintendent Peters told the board the DECA State Competition is scheduled for March 5–7, 2026 in Detroit, with approximately 36 Bridgman High School students and five chaperones attending; the students’ hotel is about 17 miles away in Dearborn and a shuttle will be provided.
The board also approved requests to send roughly 20 RMS cross‑country athletes and three chaperones to Camp Warner overnight on Aug. 17–18, 2026, and to send approximately 15 BHS cross‑country athletes and three chaperones to the 44th Parallel Cross Country Team Camp from June 13–17, 2026. The board approved a potential overnight Quiz Bowl trip to Michigan State University on April 17–18, 2026 if the team qualifies.
As part of the same consent motion (moved by Member Roberts and supported by Member Owen), the board approved Spring 2026 coaching recommendations: Boys’ Varsity Baseball coach Justin Hahaj ($7,217, Level 12); Boys’ JV Baseball Dan Schuchardt ($4,277, Level 7); Girls’ Varsity Track & Field John Carr ($5,539, Level 6); Boys’ Varsity Track & Field Spencer Carr ($5,703, Level 7); Varsity Track & Field Emily Nannfeldt ($4,729, Level 1); Girls’ RMS Track & Field Emma Cramer ($3,323, Level 6); Girls’ Varsity Soccer Nick Foxworthy ($5,868, Level 8); Girls’ RMS Soccer Erin Korson ($2,837, Level 1); Girls’ Varsity Softball Amy Houghton ($7,217, Level 12); and Girls’ Varsity Softball Assistant Tracy Becker ($2,837, Level 1). The consent motion also approved hiring Hana Bolinder as a lifeguard for the Bridgman Aquatic Center and the December and January bills.
The consent agenda motion carried unanimously, 4–0.
