Board authorizes district funding for four varsity sports to offset costs

The Dundee Community Schools Board voted Jan. 12 to authorize a Letter of Agreement with the Dundee Education Association (DEA) to formally recognize varsity bowling, girls and boys varsity soccer, and boys varsity golf as school-supported programs.
Athletic Director Mr. Crow explained these teams have operated as self-funded varsity sports that conducted fundraisers; the proposal would move their funds into the district's general fund to offset costs such as uniforms, coaches' stipends and fees. The motion to authorize the superintendent to enter the agreement passed unanimously.
Trustees discussed the rationale for the change and expressed support for reducing fundraising burdens on student-athletes and families.
