Parents and community members press board on curriculum concerns during public comment

Melissa Yeomans said her family had been deeply impacted by materials addressing transgender identity and said some book-club content for older children had been "put in the hands of her classmates" and raised concerns about age-appropriateness. Vicky Slott quoted curriculum developers and argued the program positions transformative social-emotional learning and social-identity content as foundational, which she said runs counter to the district’s role.
A district representative thanked speakers and noted that administrators will follow up with individuals who requested additional information. The board closed public comment and indicated appropriate district staff will respond to requests recorded on comment cards.
