County executive introduces first Jackson County veteran service officer

County Executive Levota introduced Robert Goins to the Jackson County Legislature on July 6 as the county's first veteran service officer. Levota said Goins, a Navy veteran who was injured in Iraq, joined the county team the previous Wednesday and had already started outreach to local American Legion and VFW chapters and the Missouri State Veterans Commission.
"I'm pleased to introduce Mr Robert Goins, Jackson County's very 1st veteran service officer," Levota told legislators and asked members to welcome him. The executive said Goins will connect veterans to services and represent them before the Federal Veterans Affairs Office to help with disability compensation claims.
Legislators applauded the new hire. The executive credited Legislator Megan Smith for her work pursuing the position and noted the role had been budgeted previously but was unfilled until now.
