Parent raises concerns about student injury and district emergency response

Parent Vicki Barry of 30016 5th St., St. Clair Shores addressed the Lake Shore Board of Education during the audience participation period to raise concerns about an injury sustained by her student and the district's response. Barry asked the board to review policies and procedures that apply during emergencies and to clarify how the district responds when students are injured on campus.

The board did not provide a public response during the open session summary recorded in the minutes; the meeting proceeded to a closed executive session at 5:20 p.m. "At parental request" the board met in closed session to consider a student-expulsion recommendation and a personnel matter. The meeting later returned to open session at 6:55 p.m., after which the board recorded a vote to expel student number 520009919 for 180 days and permit virtual learning through North Lake High School.
