Superintendent outlines 31aa funding priorities and construction updates

On 31aa funding, DiPonio said a limited number of districts opted in this year and that Lake Shore's funding was consequently boosted. He said the administration's immediate focus will be "securing elementary playgrounds" and that staff are "investigating" cell-phone-free buildings and pouch solutions with student feedback to inform plans. He told the board the statutory deadline to spend 31aa funds is September 2027.
DiPonio also described facilities work: the district will transition from the current Ad Center to a new location in April, with an anticipated ribbon cutting before the board meeting and an open house on May 16; the board's May 18 meeting will also include a retiree dinner. He identified bid pack 7 for courtyards, athletic spaces and infrastructure as in development and said the Rodgers NW roof and concrete areas need prioritized repairs. President Ziegler asked about a sidewalk that is receiving sump-pump water from nearby homes, asking, "Doesn't the sump pump water need to go into a sewer section?" DiPonio deferred to specialists on that technical question.
He additionally offered tours of the new space for board members and indicated he would email fall and spring student-count figures to the board when finalized.
