Ionia ISD board adopts Agency Voluntary Compliance Plan after OCR review

The Ionia County Intermediate School District Board of Education unanimously adopted an Agency Voluntary Compliance Plan on Jan. 8, 2026, after staff reviewed the results of an Oct. 28, 2025 Office of Civil Rights compliance review.
Ted Paton reviewed the audit and told the board the Career Center was “93% in compliance” with no major citations but several minor findings that the district has addressed or will address before the plan’s Jan. 26, 2026 due date. The motion to adopt the plan was moved by Board President Linda Hoxie-Green and supported by Vice President Randy Masterson; the board voted unanimously to approve it.
The compliance document from the Michigan Department of Education flagged a set of documentation edits (including missing required language and contact email addresses in some public-facing nondiscrimination statements) and several architectural and accessibility items at Ionia High School that require corrective action. The signed compliance plan includes a local-board certification: “I HEREBY certify that the Civil Rights Compliance Plan for Ionia ISD was adopted by the Ionia ISD Board of Education or Board Authorized Official on January 8, 2026,” a statement printed and signed on the submitted plan by Board President Linda Hoxie-Green.
District leaders told the board they will implement the corrective steps within the timelines laid out in the plan. The administrative staff also noted routine budget work and plans to present an amended budget at the March meeting.
