The board considered and approved updates to two policies pulled from the consent agenda. The Title IX-related change simply updates the Office for Civil Rights mailing address to reflect its move to Washington, D.C. The board also discussed a revision to the student cell-phone policy changing the requirement from devices merely being "away" to being "away and powered off" during the school day to reduce habitual checking and distractions.
Chair framed the rationale for the cellphone change, saying that even when devices are "away" the Pavlovian response to a ding or vibration leads students to check devices. A board member moved to approve the policy changes and received a second; the board conducted a voice/roll vote and the Chair announced the motion carries.
