“The reason we are here is for the Kent ISD school board election resolution,” the Chair said, explaining that two incumbent candidates are running for two seats and that the district must present the resolution at least one meeting before adopting it, in accordance with Section 6122 of the revised school code as cited in the discussion. The board will formally vote on a designated elector at the May 19 meeting.
Board members discussed the practical duties of serving as the designated elector. The Chair described the process as: attend the ISD meeting on Monday, June 2; cast the district’s vote; and remain while votes are tallied. The Chair characterized the commitment as “about 20 ish minutes” but cautioned the tally could take longer if a winning candidate speaks. Board members also discussed naming an alternate in case the designated elector cannot attend.
No formal designation was made at the May 14 special session; the Board scheduled the designation for the May 19 meeting, where the motion and a recorded action will be entered into the minutes.
