Penny Strauss, a Polk County resident, told the Board of Commissioners during the public-comment period that her family has followed strangulation cases for four years and wanted to publicly thank local prosecutors for recent work that led to felony prosecutions. She named two prosecutors, Connor and Shannon Clawson, as having handled cases that produced felony charges and said her daughter has been directly affected by those crimes.
"Strangulation is is serious, and, it's not a game, breath play, whatever," Strauss said, urging sustained attention from law enforcement. She also noted recent accountability actions outside Polk County, saying state regulators "recently took the license away from a Clackamas county sheriff sergeant," and thanked the DA's office for the attention the county has been giving such cases.
