Board honors Monroe High boys soccer team after historic season

Coach Ian Cook and others presented the Monroe High boys soccer team to the Board of Education, chronicling a historic 2024 season that included the program's first victories over teams such as Ann Arbor Pioneer and Dexter and a run to the state final 16. "The final record for the season was played 23, won 13, lost 8, drew 2, 65 goals scored," Cook said as he reviewed match results and milestones.
Cook credited assistant coaches Steve Steele, Ryan Charnock and Rob Anderson, the Trojan Neck Kicks booster club and supportive parents for the team's success. The coach introduced players by name, called out captain Giovanni Gallegos for scoring key goals in a regional semifinal upset over Canton High School, and described the squad's mix of freshmen through seniors and academic achievement (a combined GPA Cook said was about 3.2).
Superintendent Scholl and board members congratulated the team and invited players and families to be recognized at upcoming district events.
