Jen Knight described the event’s goal as "strengthening the home-school partnership by engaging families in interactive, standards-aligned literacy and science experiences," noting grant support from the Otsego Public Schools Foundation and the Allegan Area ESA. Literacy coaches Kristin VanWyk and Gina Watson summarized grants and community partnerships, including work with the local public library and Otsego Bands to broaden family participation.
Student Success Coordinator Shannon McLaren and 5th-grade teacher Alle Fisk outlined classroom-level activities; Fisk explained benefits of read-aloud plans used to extend literacy practice. The WSE team set up demonstration stations so board members could try Bee Bops and Dash robots, which trustees said helped them see how hands-on activities support curriculum goals.
Board members praised the presentation. Trustee Jason Davis said he appreciated the team’s "humor and engagement," and Trustee Jessica Hazelhoff commended the staff for "hard work, excitement and energy every day." The presentation was followed by routine business on the agenda.
