Board approves Right At School contract as public commenters warn privatization risks

Vice‑President Beaudoin moved ‘‘that the Novi Community School District Board of Education, in the best interest of the Novi Community School District, approve the Right At School (RAS) Contract Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), as presented.’’ The motion carried unanimously. Assistant Superintendent Carino had presented the proposed transition plan to the Board during the meeting and described operational steps for the transition.
Multiple members of the public addressed the board during the public comment period about toddler care and the proposed change. Allison Angus, Dylan Lochbiler, Katy Shpakoff, A. Soundasya and Ashley Bootz spoke about concerns that contracting with an outside provider could reduce district oversight and limit affordable care options for families of staff members.
