Public health manager reports emergency septic failure in Garrison; board approves emergency abatement funding

Gina Hyer, Public Health Manager in Community Services, told the board that on April 4 county public health and land services staff observed sewage surfacing on a property in the 26000 block of Birch Trail in Garrison. Staff contacted the owner and a septic provider; the tanks were pumped to eliminate the immediate hazard. Hyer said the underlying drain-field repair cannot occur until the ground thaws and requested emergency use of solid waste funds to abate the imminent threat and requested approval to use solid waste funds for the repair when conditions allow.
"I'm Gina Hyer. I'm the Public Health Manager over at Community Services," Hyer said when introducing the matter and described the site visit and interim actions. Commissioners asked no additional questions and voted to approve the emergency use of solid waste funds and follow-up repairs as conditions permit.
The board's approval permits Community Services to deploy solid-waste funds for immediate abatement and to schedule drain-field repairs once weather allows.
