Judge Bates to explore emergency management director options after Trimble County cost estimates

Judge/Executive Scott Bates told the Court he had discussed sharing an emergency management director with Trimble County; the proposal from Trimble's Fiscal Court appeared to require a Henry County contribution of $26,000 in labor only. Deputy Judge Buchanan clarified that a realistic total — including salary, benefits and office expenses — would be more like $30,000, and that with $13,000 in current grant funding and mileage costs, Henry County's total exposure could be in the upper $40,000s.
Members said the county does not currently have the budget for that level of expense. Esquire Brad Fisher said the county needs to be prepared but must spend carefully. By general consent, Judge Bates will continue exploring options and may have the Budget & Personnel Committee work on identifying a candidate who knows the county and the emergency management function.
