Saginaw kindergartner honored after top U.S. finish in Mathletics World Math Day

The Board of Education recognized Jessie Loomis kindergartner Messiah Thomas after staff said he placed first among U.S. kindergartners in Mathletics World Math Day.
Sheila Dupuis, Messiah’s kindergarten teacher, told the board that he "did over 2000 math fluency questions and got them all correct," and that he was one of roughly 10 million participants spanning about 160 countries. Principal Julie Miller and Title I teacher Shawn Burdanowicz McFarland joined Dupuis in presenting Thomas and highlighting his testing achievements.
Board members and administrators praised the student and congratulated the family and staff. The recognition was presented as an example of individual academic achievement during the briefing session.
