Fiscal Court approves application for poured-in-place rubber playground surface at Buchanan Splash Pad

Deputy Judge Travis Buchanan told the Court that Amy Mahoney prepared an application to use ground-tire poured-in-place surfacing for the playground next to the Buchanan Splash Pad to replace tracked wood chips. "The match on the quote we received would be $30,052," Buchanan said, adding the grant requires a 25 percent match that can be monetary or in-kind.
Buchanan explained the surface is poured ground tires rather than rubber chips. The Court approved submission of the Crumb Rubber/Tire-Derived Product grant application on a motion by Esquire Danny Shain and a second by Esquire Brad Fisher; the motion carried unanimously. No funding decision for the county match was taken beyond approval to apply. The Court asked staff to proceed with the application and report back if the match or project scope requires further court approval.
What’s next: staff will submit the grant application and return to the Fiscal Court if the project requires an appropriation for the match or scope changes.
