Commissioners move to update MOU to spend remaining $122,000 in state disaster relief

Chair (speaker 3) previewed an updated MOU with the long-term recovery committee and invited Roger to summarize remaining disaster-relief funds. Roger (speaker 4) told commissioners the county was the first in the state to receive a state disaster relief award of $459,000 "that was awarded back on June 10 in 2025," and that $336,000 had already been expended through the county's application process.
Roger said the county has $122,000 left and has requested a state extension to Sept. 30 to expend the remainder. "Our goal is with this new MOU is to allow the long term recovery committee to expend the rest of that money on helping the people through their process that they have," Roger said. He emphasized the funds were used for individual assistance rather than infrastructure.
Commissioners praised the rapid deployment: one commissioner said, "You guys did good getting just getting the majority of that money out as quick as you could." Staff and commissioners agreed the MOU will formalize the committee's authority to distribute the remaining funds and avoid delays in getting cash to affected residents.
