Allegheny County honors local volunteers and small-business leaders at 2026 "Positive People" awards

Katie Kennedy, who introduced Allegheny County's third annual "Positive People" awards, told commissioners the program was created to recognize "the people in Allegheny County who are doing the quiet and meaningful steady work of making our communities better." She said winners had been honored at a June 16 luncheon and received plaques and commissioners' citations.
Winners highlighted during the meeting included Bria Ischler, co-owner of In Between Cafe and In Between Sips (recognized for "leading by example in business"); React Robotics and Engineering in Allegheny County, represented by Barry Hartung (nonprofit STEM education); Larry Brock and Marty Horn (ambassadors); Angela Greenwood and Ashley Drake (unwavering volunteerism); and Kate Metzger, coordinator of children's programs for the Allegheny County Library System (youth support). Kennedy described recurring words used to characterize honorees—"generous, welcoming, compassionate, and community minded"—and noted that many were nominated by neighbors, coworkers and past winners.
Commissioners invited the award recipients to the front for a group photo. Chair thanked the presenters and praised volunteerism across the county.
