The board discussed how it will recruit and select two Student Members of the Board (SMOB) for 2026–27. Dr. Roberts explained the process used last year: principals identify candidates, district staff screen and present them for board interviews, and the board selects two student members and two alternates.
Ms. Knapp suggested interviewing an upcoming junior and a senior to ensure continuity; Mrs. Nash asked that principals provide at least a primary and secondary candidate from each school. Mrs. Nash moved that principals and district leaders proceed as they did last year to identify four candidates (two per high school); the motion was supported and carried on a 5–0 voice vote.
The board also noted a future plan to involve Middle School Ambassadors with reports beginning in the next school year and said that implementation details will be discussed at upcoming Policy & Curriculum or Briefing sessions.
