Board pulls MHSAA NIL (PBA) policy from consent for further review
Summary

Superintendent R. Roberts introduced an overview of Michigan High School Athletic Association NIL policies (referred to in the district as Personal Branding Activity or PBA). Dr. Foley explained that Michigan now allows high school students to be compensated for use of their name, image and likeness, and outlined broad considerations for district implementation.
Although the MHSAA NIL (PBA) policy was listed on the consent agenda, the board voted to remove it for separate consideration and additional detail. "Approve the MHSAA NIL (PBA) Policy as presented. Exclude- information" appears in the minutes and later the board approved a motion to remove the NIL policy from consent until further action. Board members asked to have more information before final approval.
No formal policy adoption or implementation timeline was set at the April 15 meeting; district staff will return with additional information for future board consideration.
