NYCLU urges Syracuse to defend Citizen Review Board, warns against preemptive cuts

"Nowhere in that opinion was there any language speaking to the impact on any civilian oversight bodies outside of Rochester," Zizitzky said.
Zizitzky recommended two primary steps: the council should not advance legislation that would weaken or remove CRB powers while litigation is pending, and the city administration should reverse course and defend the board’s investigatory role rather than suspend it. He said to date he was unaware of any other locality that had paused CRB investigations in response to the Rochester decision, and he encouraged the council to hold the line and explore legal avenues to preserve civilian oversight while the courts consider any appeals.
