Board approves Plante Moran landscaping and monument-signs plan

The Westwood Community School District Board of Education voted unanimously June 11 to accept Plante Moran’s landscaping and monument-signs proposal covering Daly, Thorne Intermediate and Tomlinson schools.
Mr. Jim Steiner of Plante Moran presented the design and timeline, saying the work will be done in early fall to give new plantings the best chance of survival. “The landscaping will take place in early fall, so the plants have a viable chance of long-term survival,” Steiner said. Treasurer Roderick Means asked whether trees along Thorne Intermediate’s curb line and dead trees near the football stadium would be replaced; Steiner said the scope focuses on Daly, Thorne Intermediate and Tomlinson.
The motion to accept the plan was made by Vice President Timothy Emery and seconded by Treasurer Roderick Means; the board approved it 6-0. The presentation noted several perennial species would be used to lower long-term maintenance needs. The board did not set a specific completion date beyond the planned early-fall planting window.
