CCISD reviews parents' rights, interpreters and annual TELPAS updates

The presenter reviewed federal parental rights for families of English learners, including the right to receive information in a language they understand and to have access to trained interpreters rather than relying on another student to translate.
"Tiene derecho a recibir la información de la escuela en un idioma que entienda y tiene acceso a intérpretes capacitados," the presenter said. The presenter also noted that students take the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) at least once a year and that schools will request parental approval when a student meets English standards and is ready to exit EL services.
