Committee reviews 2025–26 budget amendment, drafts 2026–27 budget and levies for Board approval

The Freeland Community School District Finance & Personnel Committee on June 16 reviewed a proposed 2025–26 budget amendment and the draft 2026–27 budget. Committee members noted unexpected increases in state revenue sources including MPSERS, special education funding and the Educator Compensation Grant, together with a smaller-than-expected cost for the middle-school addition, have produced a better-than-expected year-end fund balance. The committee agreed to forward the amendment to the Board for approval at the June meeting.
Also reviewed were the district’s proposed 2026–27 budget and the 2026–27 tax levies (L-4029s). The committee recorded that both documents will be brought to the full Board for approval in June. The committee additionally noted the Saginaw County CTE millage renewal will be placed on the November 2026 ballot, a county-level matter that may affect local millage considerations. The committee flagged Huntington Bank’s local branch closure as an operational issue affecting cash-management decisions and the need to evaluate alternate banking arrangements.
