The Mabton City Council on May 13 approved Ordinance 2026-21, authorizing the mayor to enter into a water-operator services agreement with SJ Environmental.
During the vote S3 moved the ordinance, saying, "I make a motion to approve resolution 25 and 6 dash 71 and authorizing the mayor to enter in an agreement with SJ Environmental for water operating services." Council members asked whether the contractor would handle required testing and how emergency calls would be routed. Staff (S6) clarified that the contract covers routine testing and that public works would be contacted for immediate on-site issues; more significant outages would follow standard emergency response protocols.
The motion passed by voice vote. Council members requested that representatives from SJ Environmental attend a future meeting or be available by phone if the council had follow-up technical questions before the contract is finalized.
