Council hears overview of municipal wireless code and design standards

During new business an attorney described the role of a municipal wireless code and the main categories of wireless facilities that local rules would address. "The purpose of a wireless code is to similar to any other municipal codes that, we have is to basically provide a process, a framework by which we, review wireless facilities that come, to the city and wanna be deployed here," Emily Romanenko told the council, then walked members through macro facilities, small wireless facilities and eligible facility request procedures.
Romanenko outlined design and permitting options—encouraging collocation, establishing where new towers would be allowed and noting that eligible-facility modifications are subject to federal timeframes (her presentation cited a 60-day review for streamlined requests). She recommended the council consider whether to adopt a tailored wireless code or rely on existing building and zoning rules and offered template code language her firm could adapt for Mabton.
