Smith College proposes bridge repairs and expanded plantings as part of bank work

Joe Rogers told the commission that the Mill River project includes repairs to the Lamont Footbridge and related planting work to restore riverfront structure and aesthetics. He showed photos of spalled concrete, exposed rebar, and identified specific deck rectangles flagged for repair; the applicant intends to repoint, repair minor concrete spalls and resurface the bridge deck as part of the contractor scope.
Rogers also described a planting table and estimated around 450 plants to be installed between the sidewalk and the riverbank and in areas near the Lamont Footbridge and dam to restore previously degraded areas: "...I think it was about 450 or so, plants were proposed in that area to try and, bring that up to a more of a restored riverfront area," he said. Commissioners accepted the concept but requested additional details on planting species, exact quantities per planting zone, and maintenance strategy at the continued hearing.
