Parks committee previewed survey findings, majority back renaming one park

Robin Lochner, vice chair of the Parks & Recreation Committee, previewed results from a May community survey that drew 320 responses: 119 paper copies and 201 SurveyMonkey responses. "We ended up using SurveyMonkey and paper copies," Lochner said, and staff counted 510 feature uses because respondents could select multiple park features. The survey found 81% of respondents use at least one park feature and 91% support more events in township parks.
The presentation broke results down by site: Four Brooks Park showed consensus on repairing tennis and basketball courts, while the community park yielded more diverse suggestions, from low-cost benches to musical performances. On renaming, 87% supported considering a new park name but commenters disagreed on the choice — suggestions ranged from Cooper Park (for Cooper Mechanical) to Ottsville Park (for its location). Lochner said the committee will return in July with fuller recommendations and asked the board what specific materials or analyses would be helpful at that meeting.
The board asked the committee to submit the full survey packet in advance of the July meeting so supervisors can review the responses ahead of discussion. Councilors and residents discussed which improvements could be accomplished quickly versus which would require grant funding and 2027 budget planning.
