County representatives briefed the Forestry & Parks Committee on the status of Price County’s carbon-credit project and a possible sale.
Forestry staff reported that the county’s approximately 145,000 credits were included in an RFP and that Price County met with brokerage Anew; Anew estimated about $2 million in potential proceeds but said the county pays Anew for setup, marketing and expenses up front and that a full withdrawal from the contract would carry an estimated cost of about $1 million in legal fees and brokerage costs. Committee members discussed prior investments (committee time, grant monies and ARPA funds) and agreed to discuss how best to use any proceeds at future Forestry Committee meetings.
