Price County reports 21 child placements in Q1; officials cite foster home shortages

Kayla Borgen, Children & Youth Division Manager, presented the division's Q1 2026 placement statistics, saying, "In 2026, for quarter one, 21 children were placed in out-of-home care, and 38% of those statistics are drug related." The report showed Price County's annual placement costs for 2026 are $154,953 less than last year and noted difficulty finding local foster homes.
Borgen told the board there were 66 Child Protective Services referrals in the quarter and 26 of those referrals received services. She also said the county received a funding source that kept 15 children in their homes who would otherwise have been removed. Director Sarah Reese-Socha accepted a letter recognizing the agency for exceeding contact standards for children in care, and discussion focused on increasing referrals and workforce pressures for case management.
