Commission hears fundraising plan to advance Hoisington Field master plan

At its June 24 special meeting the Weathersfield Parks & Recreation Commission discussed next steps to fund the Hoisington Field Master Plan. Susan Wilder attended to share her fundraising experience and recommended specific foundations, outreach tools and donor strategies to move the project into its next phase.
Commissioners said Parks & Rec currently has about $100,000 earmarked for the project but will need additional funds to complete upcoming phases. Wilder recommended pursuing private philanthropic support, noting the Byrne Foundation (Etna, N.H.) has recently given $50,000 for a playground and that the Vermont Community Foundation can help connect projects with local donors. She also advised using the Foundation Directory to find grant prospects and encouraged starting a major-donor campaign and broader community outreach to match specific project items to donor interests.
Wilder identified several planning considerations for the master plan: improving safe access and sidewalks from town to the field, preserving the history of the 1879 Schoolhouse and minimizing construction impacts on the town food pantry. Commissioners also discussed designing the field for school-sport use. Wilder offered to reach out to the VT Community Foundation and to return with specific contacts at a future Parks & Rec meeting.
