Board hears Northern New Mexico College update on shared CTE programs and dual-credit expansion

Board member Toby Velasquez and Superintendent Dr. Segura updated the Pojoaque Valley School District board on a renewed partnership with Northern New Mexico College that administers a 2-mill levy supporting career and technical education across five regional districts.
Velasquez said the levy has generated multi-million-dollar revenue for the program since 2019 and described a positive meeting with college leadership last fall intended to reconnect district administrators with the branch college team. "I saw myself as just the intermediary connection, but getting our administrative team hooked in with the college administrative team with the enthusiasm that President Balderas and his team brings to this," Velasquez said.
Dr. Segura gave enrollment and program details, reporting, "We currently have a 107 students enrolled in dual credit courses, including business computer applications, marketing management, word processing, automotive technology, welding, MC3, and electrical." She said the district and the college are exploring adjunct-teacher arrangements so students can earn dual credit on the high-school campus, and noted plans to invest levy funds in needed CTE equipment.
Board members asked about transportation as a barrier and Dr. Segura said some transportation funding is already budgeted in NextGen and Perkins grant allocations and that the district is working with Northern to explore cross-campus course sharing. The board did not take action; the item was informational with next steps including continued negotiations with the college and a regents meeting in April.
