Pleasant Prairie board adopts Kenosha County hazard mitigation plan

The Village Board voted to adopt Kenosha County's hazard mitigation plan, a document staff and county emergency management officials said would guide preparedness for tornadoes, flooding, extreme temperatures and shoreline erosion and help the village compete for mitigation grants.
The village presenter introduced resolution 24-29 and said adoption aligns local planning with FEMA, the Army Corps, Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) and the Wisconsin DNR. Sergeant Christopher Hanna, identified on the record as Kenosha County Emergency Management Director, told the board the plan is a four-year document and that "There are no costs to adopting this plan, and there are no requirements with this plan." He encouraged trustees to use the plan to pursue mitigation funding when available.
Trustees asked which critical village facilities are identified and whether the plan reflected the village's recently completed police station; staff said the plan lists typical permanent capital fixtures such as police and fire station locations but might not yet reflect the new 39th Avenue station. A motion to adopt resolution 24-29 carried by voice vote.
Adoption does not obligate the village to specific expenditures, staff said, but it creates an adopted local plan the village can cite when applying for federal or state mitigation dollars.
